[color=#000][font=tahoma][size=16px]公元819年，唐宋八大家之一刑部侍郎韩愈因向唐宪宗上呈了一篇反对狂热崇佛的《论佛骨表》，被贬到潮州当刺史。年过50的韩愈，到达潮州后，在僻远的潮州实践着他治国安邦的才能。韩愈的刺潮，带动了中原文化在潮州的传播，潮人因学韩而兴学，又在兴学中益尊韩。虽然韩愈治潮只有八个月（8个月后病逝于潮州），但他在潮州的发展史上，地位最高，对后代的影响也最深远。以致潮州江山改姓韩，有关韩愈的故事在潮州百姓中广为传诵。潮州的江河，改名姓“韩”，称“韩江”；潮州的山，也称为“韩山”。 直到今天，潮州人说起韩愈，依然无不肃然起敬。[/size][/font][/color]

[color=#000][font=tahoma][size=16px]古代潮州的陶瓷产品“白如玉，薄如纸，明如镜，声如磬”，远销海外，令世人瞩目，宋代笔架山“百窑村”可证其昔日风采。明代万历年间（1573-1620年），一些精明的民间艺人，面对陶瓷生产过程中废弃的许多碎瓷片，特别是那些有釉彩与花卉图案的彩瓷片，慧眼独具，变废为宝，开始创造性地利用它们在屋脊上嵌贴成简单的花卉、龙凤之类图案来装饰美化建筑。[/size][/font][/color]
[font=tahoma][size=16px]清代中后期，瓷器作坊专门为嵌瓷艺人烧制各色低温瓷碗，这些瓷碗被彩以各种色釉，色彩浓艳，经风历雨而不褪色。嵌瓷艺人将瓷碗进行剪裁之后，把陶瓷片镶嵌、粘接、堆砌而成人物、花鸟、虫鱼、博古等各种造型，皆寓吉祥如意、长寿富贵之意，主要用来装饰祠堂庙宇、亭台楼阁和富贵人家的屋脊、垂带、屋檐、门额、照壁等。[/size][/font]
